Just ramblings about what's happening in a very ordinary life.

Summer of my Burned legs! March 19, 2012

Well, New England has decided to bring spring earlier than ever this year! It is 77 degrees right now, almost 4pm. Over the next few days the temps will get into the 80s!
I am going to have t get out in the sunshine and start my yearly tan.
Speaking of yearly tans, for years my legs would not tan at all. Back in the 80s, when I lived in AZ, I went tubing down the Salt River with a friend. We tied out tubes together and just lazed on down, enjoying the sun, other tubers, and our picnic lunch! I brought a tube of sun block to use mostly on my friend who was auburn haired and fair skinned. Since I grew up near the ocean in MA, I figured fresh water wouldn’t be as bed and just occasionally lathered myself with the sunblock.

Boy, was I ever wrong! I ended up with 2nd and 3rd degree burns on my legs! It was apparent as soon as we turned in our tubes and rode back to the car. I HURT! Could hardly walk. Ended up sleeping in a tub of cold water that night. Had to call in sick the next day, and got to a Doc.
Let me say, there are dermatologists virtually on every other corner of Phoenix! Snowbirds just don’t realize how bad the sun is there!
Well, I could not wear pantyhose for weeks! And had to wear sandals! I had an ointment to put on my legs twice a day, had to soak in COLD water ever morning before work, and had to sleep with wet towels on the front of my legs.
The doctor said I would not be able to tan my legs for a VERY LONG time – years. He was right.
All that happened in the early 80s, and I tanned my legs for the first time last summer(2011)!
I now look forward to tanning again this year but really did learn my lesson.
How about you? Any experience like that?

Hope everyone’s Saturday was fruitful.  I spent the day trying to do my first FMQ with a Cat Mat I am making.  Came to the conclusion I just don’t know how!  Finally called a local quilt shop and asked about classes in FMQ.  Can’t attend until May.

I also made some of my fave steak and gravy with mushrooms and onions.  YUM!  Very simple and very delicious.  I eat it without potatoes or rice, have to keep those carbs down below 20g a day!  That’s okay b/c I love the steak!

Spent some time trying to learn how to get this blog up and running.  Not much help as I learn better by example than by reading.  I can learn by reading but some things are easier for me if I’m shown how to do it.

Started trying to finish the Cat Mat by hand quilting but, since the front and back are the same, it is too difficult to match the stitches on both side!  Soooo, I took the back off and replaced it with a solid piece of fabric.  This way when I quilt it the stitches on the back will form a pattern but not have to match the front perfectly.

With the second “front” I will make another Cat Mat for a friend.  Or maybe even for one of my cats.

Had Chobani pineapple for breakfast and a PP strawberry smoothie for lunch.  Will have either meat sauce with mushrooms and broccoli or steak dish for dinner.  Cheese and crackers(triscuits) for snack before bed.

Getting bit tired now.  Will sit back and watch Harry  Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

Another ordinary day!  Had a bad night, tried sleeping but ended up watching Murder She Wrote until 3am!  Finally took half an antihistamine just to get to sleep.  Didn’t finally get up until 11:30!

No sunshine visible so far today.  Temp only 49 and 56 for the day.  Just wish the sun would shine.

Was on the Pat Sloan blog to see what she has in her store.  It’s a quilting blog and quite a complicated site.

Anyone out there in the Boston area?  Any of you quilters?  Or crafters?

Have a great day everyone!

Okay, where do I start?  I’m a brand-spanking new blogger.  Have not the slightest idea what I’m doing.  There were so many options on the email I received welcoming me to WordPress, I don’t know if I can use them all or only 1 at a time!

If anyone out there uses WordPress for their blog, would you help me get started?

Hello world!

Being a New Englander I can always count on the weather as a topic of  conversation.  Day started off grey and overcast.  Now, late afternoon, it has started to rain!  Where is all the great weather  the local forecasters have been talking about?

IT’S GONE!

Wish we could depend on forecasters, but no such luck!
